Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid, professionally known as Iman, is a Somali-American supermodel, entrepreneur, and philanthropist whose career has had a transformative impact on the fashion industry and global representation of African beauty.
Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1955, Iman grew up with a deep appreciation for culture, aesthetics, and education, which later informed both her modeling career and business ventures.
Iman rose to international prominence in the 1970s and 1980s, quickly becoming one of the first Black models to achieve sustained global recognition. She worked with legendary photographers and designers, including Richard Avedon, Peter Beard, and Yves Saint Laurent, and became a fixture on the covers of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle.
