Black History Month Series Vol. #47: James Tate Jr.

Welcome back, scholars. Today, we present a brother I've gotten to know pretty well and much respect to him and one of the best from the Midwest, Detroit's own, James E. Tate Jr.

James E. Tate Jr. is the Detroit City Council President. First elected to City Council in 2010, Tate has built a reputation for steady leadership, accessible government, and deep community engagement rooted in his lived experience as a District 1 resident.

Throughout his tenure, Tate regularly hosts community meetings to ensure residents have direct access to their elected officials and launched DI$COVER DI, Detroit’s first district-wide online business directory, to elevate and support local entrepreneurs. In 2025, he launched NextVoice, a monthly meet-up that provides Detroiters ages 18-40 an opportunity to address Detroit’s top priorities through community dialogue and actionable policies.

Tate has played a key role in shaping Detroit’s revitalization efforts—supporting responsible development, advancing affordable housing initiatives, and approving projects that create quality, well-paying jobs for residents. He is also a champion for mental health awareness and wellness, spearheading initiatives such as Protect Your Crown, leading the Task Force on Black Male Engagement, and remaining deeply invested in mentoring the next generation of Detroit leaders.

Before his service on the City Council, Tate worked as Second Deputy Chief with the Detroit Police Department. He also spent time in broadcast journalism as an Emmy Award-winning assignment editor at WXYZ-TV.

A pioneer truly for young black men in Wayne County from Gen Z, Millennials etc.

Why you will still be mediocre in 2026

Ball just dropped & rent is due and you're somewhere blowing it on Hennessy Lemon Pepper Wings with D'Usse Truffle Fries. Ball dropped before your balls dropped so now it's 2026. Happy New Year! 25 years since 9/11. 10 years since LeBron came back 3-1. 10 years without Ali, Prince, David Bowie etc. America's Bisesquicentennial. 20 years of Twitter. 18 years since the victory of Barack Obama and regardless, it's been a joke for you. Most of you will enter 2026, the same way you entered 2025, a disgrace, a joke, a minstrel, a coughing baby compared to Tsar Bomba. If being a ham & egger was a dynasty, you'd have Tom Brady rings, Joe Montana win percentage and Steve Yzerman consistency & longevity. If Fs got you into Harvard, you'd be a Summa Cum Laude on autopilot. If it was a Least Valuable Player, it'd be named after you the same way Bill Russell is to the Finals MVP. Here's the central point, you suck and you been taking Ls si...

My thoughts on the attacks on Nigeria & Venezuela

Welcome back and Happy New Year, scholars. As a veteran, I felt it was important to cover what's going on regarding the United States' attacks on both Nigeria and Venezuela. Here's the facts, we do know about Trump is that he's an imperialist to the maximum degree. Why? Venezuela has the most proven oil reserves globally & has more than the United States & Saudi Arabia combined. Nigeria is the second largest oil nation in Africa in reserves and 1st in exports. He's had petty conflicts with nations such as Canada which is another oil powerhouse and Greenland, a mineral powerhouse so we can infer from pattern recognition that Donald Trump is indeed an usurper. However, that's not a deep dive analysis. As a former United States Marine, I was trained to distinguish strength from recklessness. Strength is discipline, foresight, and respect for consequences, while recklessness is mistaking noise for power. President Trump’s posture toward Nigeria a...

5 people who should never get close to the white house or become affiliated with the President

Welcome back, scholars. This is a hit piece warning to Black Americans, this is not for Kamala Harris either because I will be dropping a hit piece condemning her as well but we must speak on those dropping hate pieces in politics, promoting confusion or like the moron jumping around in the picture above promoting bribery. I was inspired to make this after the absolute shit show in Madison Square Garden from Donald Trump being the leader of foolishness and having a liar of a vice presidental candidate to Tony Hinchcliffe who's Italian but has the nerve to look down on people as if his people didn't not only beg to accepted by the Anglo but went through lynchings in Louisiana to be accepted. You all know names like Tulsi Gabbard, Ron DeSantis, Anna Paulina Luna, Rachel Levine, JD Vance, Donald Trump, Grant Cardone, Kamala Harris, Tim Walz and Josh Shapiro should never touch office. Let's get into this, starting off with honorable mentions. - Marshall ...
